About
My name is Tom Kyle. I am a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and am a Unix administrator for a manufacturer of consumer goods. I’ve also previously worked in academic and research environments. As a Unix administrator, I’m responsible for keeping the servers and other back end resources available, so that services are available for business users. As one of my directors once put it, as part of the the infrastructure team, I keep the lights in the datacenter blinking.
As well as working with Unix, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with databases, virtualization, network and security administration, and other technologies. I feel lucky that I’ve been able to work in many different roles of IT, as I believe that it has been a great help to me in working to resolve various issues and crises over the years.
One thing that I’ve learned is that it helps to have a good sense of humor in IT. It can be a strange and difficult job at times, so I find that it’s helpful to be jolly about things and laugh about some of the more ridiculous aspects when necessary.
